I am thrilled to be running for the Anchorage School Board! I have three kids in three different ASD schools. I’m right in the thick of the daily happenings in several schools and classrooms.
I grew up in Bethel, Juneau, and Fairbanks. My dad served in the state legislature, and when he retired, we moved to Fairbanks so we could grow up living near family and work the family business. Throughout my childhood, I spent countless hours in the gym as a competitive gymnast and worked alongside my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in our tourism business. I spent years learning how to pilot my family’s sternwheel riverboats and became the youngest female to earn my 100-ton Master’s License at the age of 18. I went to the Colorado School of Mines and graduated with a Petroleum Engineering degree in 2002. After graduating, I moved to Anchorage and worked for BP until I had my first child, then worked part time as an engineering consultant.
We moved to Eagle River in 2007 and love being involved in this community. I am the current president of the Birchwood Advisory Committee at Birchwood ABC. The committee has worked with many principals throughout the years and has been advocating for our school and students to keep our ABC program strong.
I am married to John Sims, who grew up in Eagle River and graduated from Chugiak High School and Hillsdale College. We have three busy kids. Fischer is 12 and attends Mirror Lake Middle School. Emerson is 11 and is in her last year at Birchwood ABC. Sullivan is 8 and is in the Spanish Immersion program at Chugiak Elementary.
Other Community Involvement:
- Chugiak-Eagle River Foundation – Board Member
- National Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges Alaska – Treasurer
- Mustang Hockey Association – Interim Treasurer
- Trick or Treat in the Heat, Eagle River – Organizer
I look forward to meeting members of our great community throughout my campaign and would be honored to have your support!
